A college in Worthing is changing its name to encourage mature students to sign up for courses.

From Monday, Worthing Sixth Form College will be known simply as Worthing College.

A spokesman said the name change had come about in response to the institution's changing role.

He said: "The college has diversified significantly since incorporation in 1993 and now has a significant lifelong learning provision and community enterprise function, playing a wider role in meeting the needs of our local community.

"The term 'sixth form college' is an impediment to the development of these services as it creates barriers to access in the minds of our learners aged 19-plus and other customers."
