Student life can be tough for the uninitiated but this year's intake can find survival tips on the web.

Tim Gold, a 21-year-old psychology student at Sussex University, has been developing a web site for fellow students.

The site was the result of a collaboration between students at Sussex and Brighton universities, who gave their time and IT skills free to put advice online for those following in their footsteps.

Tim said: "We have built a little bit of Brighton student life on the internet. It has information on housing, employment, supermarket deals, transport and how to make cheap, great meals.

"Students have to manage on a tight budget and one way to make money last longer is to know where to get the best deals.

"The site also has a social side with sections such as a CD swapshop."

The team of 30 student web builders used their own experiences and favourite foods to put together a comprehensive selection of cheap eating options for the web site's recipe section.

The site was set up without any funding and the students are now looking for a sponsor to help with marketing their work in the run-up to Freshers week.
