A town centre nightclub may be able to stay open later on ordinary Sundays and Sundays before a Bank Holiday.

The move to extend hours at Kings nightclub in Langney Road, Eastbourne, has provoked serious concern from ward councillors who fear rowdiness and increased noise.

The current public entertainment licence hours end at 2am Mondays to Saturdays and 10.30pm on Sundays.

But nightclub bosses want to stay open until 1am on ordinary Sundays and until 2am on Sundays before a Bank Holiday.

Environmental health manager Douglas Lindsay said he shared councillors' concerns but recommended the licence be extended for three months before deciding whether it be renewed.

He said: "Entertainment on Sundays may remain subdued. On the other hand however, Sunday entertainment could become more popular resulting in a significant increase in late night noise."

The recommendation goes before Eastbourne Borough Council's licensing panel tomorrow.
