A town centre night club in Eastbourne may be allowed to stay open later.

The move to extend hours at Kings in Langney Road has provoked concern from local councillors, who fear it will lead to increased rowdiness and noise.

The current entertainments licence runs until 2am from Mondays to Saturdays and 10.30pm on Sundays.

Club bosses want to stay open until 1am on ordinary Sundays and 2am on Sundays before a bank holiday.

Environmental health manager Douglas Lindsay said he shared councillors' concerns but recommended the licence be extended for three months before deciding whether it be renewed.

He said: "Entertainment on Sundays may remain subdued. On the other hand,, however, it could become more popular resulting in a significant increase in late-night noise."

The recommendation goes before Eastbourne Borough Council's licensing panel tomorrow.
