A ban on street drinking has been delayed until the end of September.
Brighton and Hove City Council gained permission earlier this year for a bylaw to come into effect now.
It will cover most of Kemp Town stretching westwards towards the Royal Pavilion.
St James's Street is of particular concern as many street drinking problems occur there.
A council spokeswoman said: "We won't enforce it for four weeks until the signs are up."
