Sussex all-rounder Umer Rashid is out of their next two Championship matches after breaking his finger.

The 25-year-old left-hander fractured a digit on his right hand while fielding at slip for Haywards Heath in their Sussex League match against Brighton & Hove on Saturday.

Rashid will be out for at least two weeks, ruling him out of tomorrow's game against Derbyshire at Derby and the home fixture with Durham on Wednesday week.

Coach Peter Moores said: "The fortunate thing for Umer is that the break is across the finger. He will be out for at least a fortnight but hopefully no more than that. It's a shame because he had just started to play well."

Will House, whose last Championship appearance was against Worcestershire in June, comes into the squad and has a good chance of playing.

Some water seeped under the covers protecting the wicket at Derby during heavy weekend rain and on what is likely to be a damp pitch Sussex seem certain to play an all-seam attack with off-spinner Mark Davis missing out for the second Championship match running.

Sussex head to Derby protecting a ten point lead at the top after nearest challengers Middlesex were beaten by an innings at home to Gloucestershire.

Sussex: Montgomerie, Goodwin, Adams, Zuiderent, Yardy, House or Davis, Martin-Jenkins, Prior, Lewry, Kirtley, Robinson.
