Brighton and Hove's oldest toy shop is to open a new store in Churchill Square shopping centre.

Gamleys, which began trading in Hove in 1919, is to move to the lower central mall of the centre on Saturday.

All 12 members of staff will be transferred from its store in the Imperial Arcade, Brighton, which closed last Saturday after more than 50 years of trading.

Gamleys managing director Charles Bradford said: "It is an exciting opportunity and we are pleased to become a part of the major shopping area of the town. "

The toy retailer will trade from the former Toy Stack unit in Churchill Square. It will use the existing shop fittings until next year, when it hopes to re-fit the unit in its own style.

The opening is part of an expansion plan that includes the launch of a new store in Southampton in September.

The Hamley's Store Group, responsible for Toy Stack, will launch a new concept store, Bear Factory, at the centre's upper central mall, on August 13.

Shoppers will be able to design and make their own bears.
