Asbestos dust flared into the air as flames swept through a farmyard barn.
Environmental health officers were called to the scene when firefighters realised the roof of the building contained asbestos.
Fire quickly spread through the barn, setting alight straw bales and agricultural equipment, at South Heighton, near Newhaven, shortly after 11am yesterday.
Two teams of Newhaven firefighters trained their jets on the blaze and managed to bring the flames under control but the barn was destroyed in the fire.
Health officers sealed off the barn before checking to make sure the area was safe.
