A driver is due in court today charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident at a zebra crossing.
Pedestrian Sean Anthony Jones, 32, of Portslade, is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in the incident.
Gary Brooks, 32, of Dean Gardens, Portslade, will appear before Brighton magistrates charged with attempted murder, dangerous driving and vehicle document offences.
The alleged incident took place as Mr Jones crossed the zebra crossing at Portland Road, Hove, close to the Portland pub, at 11.23pm on Friday.
Mr Jones was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where doctors said his head injuries were "very serious and life-threatening".
In the early hours of Saturday morning he was transferred to a specialist head injuries unit at the Atkinson Morley Hospital in Wimbledon, south west London.
