Council spokeswoman Diane Barnet was quoted as saying: "Demand for parking spaces is greater than ever and we cannot make everyone happy.

The new central Hove scheme will make it easier for shoppers to park legally near shops." (Argus, July 13)

Perhaps she would like to explain how reducing the number of parking spaces over those in existence helps, apart from increasing the potential for more revenue from illegal parking.

I refer to the section of Blatchington Road outside Holy Trinity Church, where there was previously parking for eight cars and which has now been reduced to two disabled spaces with the rest marked in double yellow lines.

This is probably the widest section of Blatchington Road where parking caused no problems.

I do not condone double parking, parking at junctions or on zig-zag line approaches to pedestrian crossings either by drivers or some disabled disc holders and this should be eliminated.

However, to reduce parking spaces is either part of a hidden agenda by the powers who supposedly represent the people of Hove or done in plain ignorance.

Come on, Ms Barnet and Councillor Bodfish, which is it?
