Fears are growing for the safety of a teenage mother who has gone missing with her 17-month-old son.

Frances Daniels, 17, from Worthing, disappeared with her son Jack on Saturday afternoon.

The pair left their family home at 9.30am on Saturday and were last seen near Worthing pier at 2.30pm.

The promenade was packed at the time as thousands of people enjoyed the Seafront Fayre in glorious sunshine.

Frances's worried relatives alerted Sussex Police when she failed to return home on Saturday evening. Today officers were trying to establish the whereabouts of both mother and child.

They were concentrating their search locally and believed it was highly likely Frances was still in the Worthing area.

Nick Sandford of Worthing police said: "Police are concerned for Frances Daniels and her son Jack, and are appealing for members of the public to contact us if they believe they see persons fitting their description. We are also appealing to Frances to contact us direct."

Frances, who is slim, 5ft 5in tall and has mousey-blonde hair, was wearing a dark blue vest-style top, smart trousers and green trainers.

Jack, who has blond hair and blue eyes, was wearing an orange T-shirt and beige shorts.
