A man accused of carrying out a sex attack on a woman at The Level in Brighton has been cleared.

Andrew Thompson, 35, of Thompson Road, Brighton, was alleged to have pushed the woman to the ground and forced her to take part in a sex act.

Thompson denied indecently assaulting the woman and said she had agreed to the sex act after they met in the early hours of the morning.

Lewes Crown Court heard the woman went to a nightclub in Brighton in June 1998 and was walking home alone across the park at about 1.45am when she claimed the attack took place.

Thompson was arrested earlier this year after he gave a DNA sample to the police investigating a different matter, which came to nothing, and a match was made to the 1998 incident.

The court heard the woman drank five pints of lager on the night and was walking home across the park after leaving the nightclub on her own.

Thompson was cleared yesterday.
