Bobby Zamora began where he left off by scoring twice as Albion cruised to a friendly victory at Folkestone last night.

Zamora, who fired 31 goals in Albion's championship winning team last season, took only 12 minutes to find the target against the Dr Martens Premier outfit.

A superb run down the left by the overlapping Mark Jackson provided a near post ball which Zamora nodded home.

The striker, who has attracted bids of more than £1 million from Cardiff and Wigan, grabbed his second eleven minutes before the interval.

Midfielder Geoff Pitcher, making an impressive debut following his signing from Kingstonian, provided the telling cross that was flicked on by Gary Hart for Zamora to knock over the line and lift his arm in salute.

Albion boss Micky Adams has told anyone who would listen that his hotshot is not for sale.

But interest is bound to grow if he keeps on the scoring way when the Seagulls begin their second division season.

Zamora thought he had completed a hat-trick just 60 seconds after his second goal, but his side foot from a Paul Brooker cross was blocked on the line by Folkestone defender Dan Larkin.

But the third goal eventually came from full back Shaun Wilkinson after 63 minutes.

He thundered home an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net past goalkeeper Andrew Walker.

It was due reward for an adventurous performance by the fullback.

Brooker also went close when he crashed a rising effort onto the bar with Walker getting the faintest of touches four minutes into the seocnd half.

Albion looked comfortable in the opening half with Zamora on his own up front with five stretched across midfield.

Brooker made some mazy runs, Steve Melton worked hard and the busy Pitcher had a promising start with tireless effort and skill. Richard Carpenter also showed plenty of grit.

All the midfield, particularly Hart, were quick to support Zamora the scorer.

Matt Wicks and Andy Crosby had little to do in the opening half but were solid when Folkestone threatened early in the second half.

Adams completely changed the starting eleven from the side which defeated Worthing on Tuesday night, showing strength in depth that he has developed at the club.

He gave run-outs to youngster Daniel Marney who came on as a substitute for Melton on 59 minutes with the midfielder seeming to be troubled by injury.

Reserve goalkeeper Will Packham replaced Michel Kuipers from the line-up at Woodside Road. But Packham had little chance to show what he could do with a well marshalled defence in front of him and the Seagulls dominant through most of the match.

Albion: Packham; Wilkinson, Jackson, Wicks, Crosby, Melton (Marney 59), Pitcher, Carpenter, Zamora, Hart, Brooker. Unused subs: Hinshelwood, Ramsay, Hemsley.
