The Brighton, Hove and District United Nations Association expresses its horror at the proposals for US missile defence, in particular, the use of Fylingdales and Menwith Hill as early-warning stations for the proposed system.
It will have a profoundly negative effect. It raises the possibility of a fresh arms race between the US and other nuclear powers, damages global arms control and is a threat to the security of the UK.
A decision to allow the use of US bases in the UK will have a profoundly negative impact on the future of international security and will make the UK a target.
We hope anyone in Brighton and Hove or any organisation that agrees with us will do all they can to influence the Government not to allow these tracking stations here.
-Sheila Schaffer, chairman, Brighton, Hove and District United Nations Association
