Concern is growing all the time about mobile phone masts, not just because they are ugly, but also because there are fears about radiation from them.
Yet many of these masts do not need planning permission because they are less than 15m and are not in sensitive locations.
Bids to install these masts have been made for sites all over East Brighton, Telscombe and Peacehaven.
There have been protests from residents through petitions and demonstrations. Yet Brighton and Hove Council and Lewes District Council can do little about them.
Most people want to use mobile phones and there will have to be aerials and masts for them. But until the health risks, if any, are known, there should be great caution regarding siting.
They should be placed as far as possible away from homes and schools and they should be unobtrusive. And the Government should ensure as soon as possible that all applications for masts need planning permission.
