Now Brighton and Hove City Council appears to have geared up to tackling the issue of private cars that clog the city, is there any possibility the brief of the new parking attendants could be extended to include imposing fines on Brighton and Hove buses which appear to prefer to travel in convoy?

I suggest a two-week trial period be introduced, whereby any brace of 5B or 22 buses arriving at the same stop in London Road at the same time incurs a fixed-price penalty, much the same as that imposed on the motorist.

And before Roger French picks up his pen to defend this practice, might I reply in advance that running two buses together at 20-minute intervals is in no way the same as running one bus every ten minutes and only adds substantially to traffic problems.

While adhering to the published bus timetable would appear to be beyond the control of the bus company owing to the volume of private car traffic, it is surely not too much to ask that Brighton and Hove buses arrive at fairly evenly-spaced intervals, timetable or no timetable. Even London Underground manages that.
