I was dismayed to see Ken Bodfish's suggestion (Argus, July 17) that he will not support the amendment to the Local Plan regarding the location of the community stadium at Falmer, saying it is "not on".

I should not need to remind Coun Bodfish of the referendum held in 1999, when the residents of Brighton and Hove overwhelmingly voted yes to a community stadium in Falmer.

If he wishes to disregard that result now, he should at least give the residents the opportunity to confirm they have changed their views.

I was under the impression he was elected to represent the views of the residents of Brighton and Hove, in particular those of the Queens Park ward, or have I misunderstood democracy?

While I am now a resident of Mid Sussex rather than Brighton, I would take a very dim view of my local representatives disregarding the clearly-stated wishes of the people they represent and I would expect those Coun Bodfish represents to use their ultimate sanction should they consider this is what he is doing.

Unfortunately, Brighton and Hove is falling behind in the provision of modern facilities at an alarming rate and we in Mid Sussex find ourselves increasingly turning to Crawley for shopping and leisure activities because it has invested in easily-accessible, high-quality facilities.

I find myself increasingly frustrated by the short-sightedness of those elected to represent the people of Brighton and Hove and to provide the environment for it to thrive.

This is an ideal opportunity for Coun Bodfish to show he listens to the people he represents and act on their wishes.

The Waterhall site is a non-starter, so there is no point in raising it again. Get on board with Falmer and see it through.
