Albion boss Micky Adams is happy to play the guessing game as his side prepares for the new season.

Lee Steele partnered new signing Dirk Lehmann in attack last night as Albion opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win at Worthing.

Adams fielded a mixed side with no place for Bobby Zamora, who will instead feature in tonight's friendly away to Folkestone.

The likes of Richard Carpenter, Paul Brooker, Andy Crosby and Matthew Wicks are also expected to play tonight as Adams juggles with a squad boosted by four summer signings.

Lehmann made an encouraging debut last night as Albion won with a solitary strike from Steele but fellow new boys Simon Morgan, Geoff Pitcher and Robbie Pethick did not figure and will be missing again tonight.

Adams told fans not to read anything into his pre-season selections.

He said: "I don't really want people reading too much into partnerships or who might be playing or who might not be playing.

"There are eleven players out there who have represented Brighton and that is good enough.

"If you look at my team tonight, you will talk about partnerships in that side as well."

As for Lehmann's debut at Worthing, Adams added: "It is always difficult playing your first 90 minutes game.

"It doesn't matter how much running you do on the training pitch, that first 90 minutes is a real lung buster. I am pleased with him and I am pleased with everyone.

"Geoff Pitcher, Simon Morgan and Robbie Pethick won't feature tonight. I think it is a little bit early for them."

Albion chairman Dick Knight got a rousing reception as he addressed fans at half-time urging them to support the club's plans for a new stadium at Falmer.

The Seagulls have put tickets on general sale for their only home friendly, with Sheffield United on August 3 (7.45).

Prices are £13 for adults and £8 concessions. Tickets can be bought in person or by post from the ticket office in Queen's Road, Brighton, or by telephoning the club on (01273) 776992.
