There have been all sorts of teething troubles with the new parking zone being introduced in central Hove with some people claiming bays are too narrow for them to get into their cars.

Motorists have also been complaining all over the city that since the council took over parking control on Monday, the attendants have been too strict.

These difficulties are inevitable when a new scheme and regime is put into place.

Some problems will have to be corrected by the council in the light of experience.

But with others, motorists will simply have to get used to changes such as the new layout of bays and which areas are reserved for residents.

For far too long, some drivers have got away with parking illegally because wardens were simply not about. Now they will have to make sure they park properly or risk a fine.

The streets will flow more freely as a result, benefiting all road users, including law-abiding drivers.
