Michael Birmingham is expecting big things from Bognor after committing himself to the club until the summer of 2005.

The popular skipper, already under contract until 2003, has just signed a two year extension on improved terms.

The deal commits him to the Ryman League outfit until the age of 30.

Rocks' disappointing efforts in division one in the last two seasons have not prevented their midfield inspiration from being one of the most wanted men in non-league football.

Birmingham said: "I know we have had a couple of bad seasons but the signs from pre-season are quite good so it is well worth signing.

"Four more years at a club is not a big commitment if you are happy there.

"I asked for a new deal and the manager and the chairman came back to me with the terms.

"I have never had to negotiate over terms. Money doesn't come into it."

Birmingham is excited by Bognor's summer signings, especially young winger Richard Hudson from Lewes.

He added: "The boy impressed me in the Senior Cup final and Guy Rutherford has been raving about him for the last 12 months.

"They were together at Worthing last summer and he was well impressed.

"There will be competition in the squad and I expect good things from us."

Whether David, Birmingham's younger brother, plays a part remains to be seen.

He is training with Bournemouth on a non-contract basis and hopes to clinch a deal.

Birmingham senior said: "Only time will tell. If he plays non-league it will be at Bognor but hopefully he will get away from us and have a chance at Bournemouth."
