A film-maker has returned from success at Cannes to make a movie celebrating the reopening of a museum and art gallery.

Joe Tunmer, 24, of Queen's Park, Brighton, saw his short film, Hospital Food, screened alongside hits including Moulin Rouge at the famous festival in France.

Now he is delving into archives to make a movie celebrating the reopening of Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.

It will be screened as part of an exhibition called Kiss And Kill - Film Visions Of Brighton.

The display will focus on films from the Fifties to the present day, including End Of The Affair and Circus.

Joe's short flick will tap into the city's film history by combining archive footage with a storyline set in the present day.

After weeks trawling the contents of the South-East Film and Video Archive, Joe picked out key moments from hundreds of hours of home movies.

He will rerecord them with the same camera angles in the same locations but create a new narrative.

He said: "The original films will be shown alongside the new one so people who go to the exhibition can see how we have put it together.

"It will be interesting historically but it will also be a film you can sit down and watch.

"I don't know if anyone has ever made a film like this before. It's something completely new.

"There will be people walking dogs, couples, businessmen and people coming home after a night out. It is the time when all the different Brighton people mix."

Helen Grundy, exhibitions officer at Brighton and Hove City Council, said she is excited about Joe's project.

She said: "Joe is using archive material in a way which is really stimulating."

Joe is hoping some of the city's residents might be able to help with the making of the short. Anyone who helps will be given a copy of the film.

Kiss And Kill will be staged when the museum and art gallery reopens on December 1.
