The moaning has already started about the crackdown on parking offences which will start on Monday when Brighton and Hove City Council takes over enforcement from police.

It also includes a new controlled parking area in central Hove where there are increasing problems.

Many motorists are saying this scheme is not needed or that it is unfair to them.

More will complain that they are being unjustly fined for minor offences.

The main message is that illegal and dangerous parking cannot be tolerated in a city where streets need to be kept clear for all road users.

There will be teething troubles as motorists and attendants get used to the rules and some changes may have to be made to the Hove scheme if anomalies are discovered.

But proper enforcement will be a reality from Monday and motorists who have flouted the law for years had better get used to it.
