Falmer High School in Brighton was today awarded £46,000 from a new pot of Government cash.

The money will be used to forge close links with Brighton College and East Brighton College of Media and Arts.

Pupils from Years 7 and 8 will work with students at the two colleges on history, geography, environmental education, ICT and modern languages projects.

School standards minister Stephen Timms said he hoped it would raise awareness of the different communities living in Brighton and Hove and raise standards.

The cash is from the Independent/State School Partnerships fund. Falmer High School had to prove there was a "genuine partnership" and potential for further links to develop.

Meanwhile Ringmer Community College got £21,000 to develop links with Eastbourne College.

Pupils will work together on modern languages projects, particularly French.

The Government today allocated a total of £777,000 to fund 34 new projects.
