Voice Of The Argus (June 26) suggested that in selecting a new company for the refuse and street cleansing contract, the workforce and Brighton and Hove City Council "must get it right next time".

The workforce has never been consulted when it comes to appointing a contractor.

Those who deliver the service are simply required to move from company to company, with all the difficulties that causes, such as with pensions, without having any input into their own future.

It appears the new lead councillor, Chris Morley, is now trying to take a more inclusive approach.

However, if the view of the workers is not sought and listened to, I predict there will be ongoing problems with the service.

I also hope the council will learn lessons from the Sita dbcle. Consideration should be given by the authority to helping create "social enterprises" to run outsourced services.

It is crucial the workforce is given a stake in its future as well as long-term stability.

The workforce is doing its utmost to provide a decent service and Coun Morley deserves credit for trying to take a more pro-active role.
