Former Albion assistant Alan Cork is launching another audacious attempt to take Bobby Zamora to Cardiff.

Cork is lining up a record-breaking £2 million bid for the Seagulls' hotshot.

He confirmed: "I will be putting in a £2 million offer for Bobby Zamora next week."

Cork had a £1.2 million bid for Zamora rejected last season after quitting as Micky Adams' No. 2 to take charge of Cardiff.

Albion later turned down a £1.5 million offer from Wigan for their star striker, whose 31 goals helped them lift the Third Division title.

Cardiff also went up and chairman Sam Hammam is bankrolling their bid to emulate Rotherham with successive promotions.

The Welsh giants have just splashed out £700,000 on Manchester City defender Spencer Prior and £1 million on Stoke midfielder Graham Kavanagh.

Now Cork is planning to shatter that new club record by going for Zamora again, but the offer will receive short shrift from his close friend Adams.

The Albion boss has just completed the capture of Dirk Lehmann on a Bosman free transfer from Hibernian and he wants the German front man to play alongside Zamora.

Adams, speaking to the Argus earlier this week, said: "It's not a case of selling Bobby. That situation is still the same, the boy is not for sale.

"I am under no pressure to sell him, I wouldn't want to sell him and we have had no new offers for him."

Zamora's scoring exploits made him the subject of intense transfer speculation throughout last season.

Albion bought the 20-year-old Londoner from Bristol Rovers last August for a bargain £100,000 and he still has three years left on his contract.
