I AM an ex-Brightonian from way back and have just received a copy of The Argus dated May 11, sent by friends in Brighton, containing the story of the 300th anniversary of the Royal Sussex Regiment.
I am proud to say I joined this fine regiment in Brighton in September 1935 and served with it right through the Middle East until taken prisoner-of-war at Benghazi in 1942.
I then spent just over three years in POW camps in Italy and Germany, until I was lucky enough to escape into Poland. I was back in Brighton in May 1945, before the war in Europe ended.
Because it is such a great occasion for the regiment to reach its tercentenary, I have already booked my flight to be in Brighton and so close to Horsham in order that I can be present at the celebrations.
