Police stopped up to 200 people holding a rave in the centre of Brighton.

The revellers, carrying huge speakers, started arriving at a car park in Cheapside on Sunday afternoon.

Dozens of police officers pulled the plug on the party because it was being held in the centre of a residential area.

They stopped ravers entering the car park under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.

Inspector Mark Powles said: "People turned up with all sorts of musical equipment. Maybe they thought we were killjoys but at the end of the day it's about quality of life."
