Albion boss Micky Adams wants his players to be "the ultimate professionals" as the Seagulls prepare to end their 36-year wait for silverware.

A point against mid-table Macclesfield at Withdean tomorrow will be enough for Albion to be crowned unofficial champions of the Third Division.

The Football League's disciplinary panel reconvenes next Tuesday to review the nine-point punishment recommended for Chesterfield for financial irregularities.

That is the same day as Chesterfield visit Withdean for Albion's final home fixture.

The Spireites' nine-point penalty is certain to at least be upheld and could well be increased, so the Seagulls are on the threshold of their first title since 1965.

They have not lost a Saturday home match for more than 15 months and are unbeaten for nine games.

Another sell-out Withdean crowd will be expecting Albion to clinch the title in style against a Macclesfield side with nothing but pride at stake, but Adams warned: "We have got to approach it in the right manner.

"We have to be the ultimate professionals. We are not any good when all we think we have got to do is turn up.

"We are at our best when we have something to fight for and the incentive is there for everybody with those winners' medals.

"I think it's nice for our fans that Macclesfield are in a similar sort of position to Brighton teams of the past, with nothing to play for and trying to spoil someone else's party.

"Now it's their party. Let's hope we can enjoy the day, but we will only enjoy it if we draw or win."

Adams has no fresh injury worries and skipper Paul Rogers will return to the starting line-up after alternating with Steve Melton for the last three matches.

Darren Freeman went into hospital yesterday for his third hernia operation of the season.
