I trust Argus readers will share my annoyance at the lack of detail in the Brighton Marina to Shoreham Coastal Defence Strategy, other than the fact the consultant engineers suggest stripping shingle off the beach at Black Rock every year to provide the raw material for these works.
They suggest the shingle beach heights need to be raised by up to 1.1 metres (about 3ft 6in) but give no indication where along this stretch of coast this is needed or how it may affect the beaches in Brighton and Hove.
Another worrying factor is the cost of these works against the value of the property being protected, which I feel is grossly undervalued.
Supposedly, if all of the necessary material cannot be obtained from Black Rock, the cost of obtaining it from elsewhere will make it uneconomic - but in whose view and what are the alternatives?
