In reply to John Hoye regarding Brighton's Palace Pier, children don't drink alcohol, so you were doing what you wanted to do.

What's wrong with tea or coffee, Mr Hoye? Do you really want your children in a bar that starts to "hot up" after 8pm, with loud music, cigarette smoke, probably a bit of swearing and the odd tipsy person.

This rule is for your children's benefit and safety. If you want a drink, get a baby-sitter. If not, there are plenty of child-friendly coffee bars, ice cream parlours or burger restaurants which are for children. Pubs are for adult drinkers and responsible parents.
