Few people in Sussex can doubt the weather conditions we experience now are the direct consequence of global warming ("What's happened to the British weather", Argus, April 5).

Not only are we confronting freak weather without any precedent but also the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is higher today than it has been for many millions of years.

We are venturing into the unknown, ecologically, and President Bush has publicly declared he doesn't intend to do anything about it.

His spokespeople say he still believes global warming needs more proof.

If Argus readers are frightened about what is happening to Sussex in terms of the weather and its impact, I feel exactly the same concern and fear.

It was for this very reason I joined the Brighton and Hove Green Party and why I am standing as prospective parliamentary candidate for Hove.
