On Sunday, April 22, at Friston Parish Church, East Dean, East Sussex, we are holding a service to dedicate a framed commemoration of the existence of an RAF station at Friston.
It served the RAF from 1936 to 1946, when it was decommissioned. During the Second World War, it played a vital part in the battle to free Europe from the yolk of the Nazis.
It is now farmland and there is no trace of the RAF station. If we do not mark its existence in some way, it will in future years be forgotten.
The service starts at 3pm and is followed by a pilgrimage to the site, then a reception in the village hall.
Numbers are strictly limited because of the small size of the church and the hall.
I am now seeking information of any man or woman who served there during the Second World War who might like to join in the commemoration.
