A conman snatched a woman's money after giving up his place to her in a cashpoint queue.
The woman was using the machine outside the HSBC bank in The Broadway, Haywards Heath when she was distracted by the man.
He had let her go in front of him after pretending to have difficulty operating the dispenser.
She turned towards him as the money was being dispensed and it is believed he grabbed the cash she had withdrawn.
The man was 18 to 20, 6ft tall and had acne. He wore a half to three-quarter length black leather coat, coloured trousers and white trainers.
Witnesses to the theft on Saturday morning should Det Sgt John Pink at Haywards Heath on 0845 607099.
