The Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project was set up in 1981 and became a registered charity in 1994.
It is run by the unemployed for the unemployed to provide practical support, benefit advice, education and recreation.Based in Tilbury Place, the centre offers a range of low-cost courses, including computer literacy for poorly-housed people, claimants and the unwaged.
It has a cafe, toy library, creche facilities and chat area.
Volunteers manage all areas of the work and more help is always welcomed.
The team is keen to hear from anyone with time to spare to assist with office management, fund-raising, computer support or building maintenance.
Donations of unwanted goods such as toys, clothing, books, kitchen and computer equipment, furniture and money are also useful. The items are either used at the centre or passed on to families at the charity's temporary housing project.
