An elderly woman's hip was broken when a mugger bowled her over and stole her handbag.
The 80-year-old was left helpless on the ground after the street robber knocked her down in Lansdowne Road.
He escaped with a small amount of cash and personal items in a blue leather-type handbag with a shoulder strap.
Witnesses to the attack saw a man aged of about 20 in the area with very short blond hair and wearing a light-coloured top.
The victim was taken to Worthing Hospital for treatment.
Detective Sergeant Peter Dixon, of Worthing CID, said: "This was a particularly nasty attack on an elderly lady who has been left with a broken hip.
"I would urge anyone who has information to contact the police on 0845 6070999 and ask to speak to an officer from Worthing CID."
