A light aircraft crashed into a house in the centre of Shoreham this afternoon.

The roof of one terraced property in West Street was demolished as the twin-engined Piper Senanca plunged into a back garden.

The only casualty was the pilot, who was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

No one was in the house at the time.

Debris fell on to the nearby railway line and Coastway services were suspended for more than an hour.

The aircraft was returning to Shoreham Airport when the crashed happened.

Structural engineers were called in to inspect the house.
