Ardingly Reservoir has produced two pike over 20lb from the bank and both were taken on sea fish dead baits.

The largest was caught by Alan Grange who fished with a sardine for a fish of 21lb 8oz and the other was caught by Ian Bulmer on a herring weighing 21lb 6oz.

Feeder fishing at Hammer Straight and the Willows has produced plenty of roach and the odd bream. There was also a big perch scaling 2lb 12oz caught from the Willows on free lined maggots.

The biggest fish from Hawkhurst Fish Farm recently was a catfish of 39lb 8oz taken by Mr B. Swift on luncheon meat from Main Lake.

A number of carp were also hooked from this water and included six fish to Ray Squires, of Eastbourne, whose best was a common scaling 18lb 4oz. Brad Rogers of Lewis landed two carp, both of which were mirrors weighing 24lb 6oz and 12lb 2oz.

On Dove Lake a common carp of 21lb 9oz was hooked by Barry Worth and on Specimen Lake Keith Phipps caught a leather carp of 27lb and a mirror of 17lb.

It seems to be the smaller still waters which are fishing well on the trout scene and at Brick Farm Lake plenty of rainbows are coming out to small black and green flies fished near the surface on floating lines.

Anglers fishing deep and fast rarely catch and the retrieve must be slow in the muddy water. There have been plenty of fish in the 2lb range for anglers who have fished in this way, with the odd larger one.

An Airflow Classic Small Stillwater Championship qualifying heat will be fished at Brick Farm Lake on April 23. Entry is £15-00 and there will be teams of three-plus individual events. For more information ring Gary on 01323 832615.

The situation is the same at Spring Wood Fisheries and on Specimen Lake last week numbers of rainbows in the 6lb to 8lb class were taken. Again it was floating lines with small black flies and a slow retrieve which did the trick. It also paid to rest the swim for an hour after catching a couple of fish and returning to it later.

The opening day at Bewl Water proved to be a good one with all 54 boats booked.

There were plenty of eight fish limits of rainbows and catches including two trout of 5lb 8oz, while the best bag of 23lb 3oz was caught by Jeff Latter, of Flimwell, whose catch included a fish of 6lb 3oz.

He fished with a Hares Ear, but trout were also caught on Buzzers and other nymphs fished near the surface, in fact some were even taken on dry flies.
