The death of a child is always a tragedy. However, implicit in the concept of the word "child" is the requirement for parental education of that child.

Why, then, should we listen again to the whining, hand-wringing refrain "someone should do something" (though not, of course, us) when it is obvious the aforementioned education, in this case concerning the undesirability of being in a car driven by a teenager ("Mothers plead for death road action", Argus, March 26), has not been provided.

If these people really want someone else to look after their children, that's fine, but why should the rest of us have to?
