I wholeheartedly agree with John Parry (Argus, March 23).

He hit the nail on the head when he described some of the Meridian reporters. These types are also in abundance on Southern Counties Radio and it grates on me every time I hear them.

I thought I was alone in my feelings of irritation but am so pleased to know someone else is affected.

I have great respect for the likes of Charlotte Green on Radio 4, who has a wonderful, soothing and commanding voice.

Most of the newsreaders on Radio 4 do not affect my sensibilities - it's the local variety that annoys me so much.

I can hardly take in what they are saying sometimes because I am concentrating on their excruciating use of the English language.

Sue Greenfield, in particular, has a "baby voice" which sounds pathetic. I no longer watch Meridian but prefer the BBC's South Today. Sally Taylor is excellent and has the intelligence to go with it.
