Pete Cherry is sick of hearing all about Eastbourne Town's proud County League record.

The Saffrons outfit have never been relegated in 26 years of County League football.

But that proud boast could come under real threat if they fail to win at East Preston tomorrow in a Rich City division one six-pointer.

It may be a clash of the bottom two, but Cherry is convinced Whitehawk, Littlehampton and Lancing are also in deep trouble.

The Town boss said: "We have never been relegated and I am being reminded of that fact by everyone at the club, from the chairman down.

"None of the sides in this league are very strong. There is not a great difference between the bottom and the top. We are doing everything right except scoring goals. That has been our downfall this season."

Town's long service in the top flight is bettered only by Burgess Hill, who joined in 1975 and have never gone down.

Cherry insisted his players were doing everything they could to avoid making an unwelcome piece of club history.

He said: "They are working really hard. Even when our game was off last Saturday we trained for two-and-a-half hours."

Topscorer Lee Walsh is unavailable for tomorrow's game.

East Preston are at full strength for the game and could unveil new signing John Kingsley Simeon.

The 17-year-old right winger is a Nigerian who was recommended to the club and is likely to feature in the run-in to the season.

Terry Withers is EP's only doubt with a back injury.
