Shaun Attrell collected the Jack Pook Memorial Trophy for the most impressive fight at a packed Hove Town Hall last night.

The Hastings Westhill junior took a majority points decision in his showdown with Luke Hunt (Southwick-Savages) and his performance certainly impressed the sell-out crowd.

There were also impressive wins for Sussex seniors Dean Larter, Darren Phillips and Benjamin Chandler plus Hove ABC junior Samuel Wadey.

However, it was not a good night for Brighton's Stephen O'Brien who was disqualified for biting - an action which may have repercussions on his amateur career.

The annual OS&Bs show was a huge success for matchmaker Dave Brown, who was organising the event for the last time after vowing to step down.

There were 15 bouts on the show, including five senior bouts which offered plenty of excitement for the crowd.

National novices champion Larter (Southwick-Savages) had lost the first two rounds of his contest with S. Jones (Woking) but he fought back to snatch victory with a third round knockout, flooring Jones with a left hook to the body.

Light-heavyweight Phillips took a majority points decision against Adam Hanover (Hastings) while Chandler (Seaford) stopped Crawley's Paul Glazier in the second round with referee Paul Gates having seen enough.

O'Brien was losing his bout against Darren Curtis (Southampton) when he was disqualified by Gates, while the other senior fight saw Lee Sermon (Epsom) beat Greg Law (Keystone) on a majority points decision.

While Attrell collected the Jack Pook Trophy, Hove's Nathan Boughton collected the club award for the most improved boxer. That came after his defeat by Keystone's Clancy Clark.

Wadey was highly impressive in his unanimous points win over Jason Stone (New Addington), standing toe-to-toe with his opponent and showing some fine boxing skills.

Fellow Hove boxer Ben Touray lost on points to Ross Saunders (King Alfred, Somerset) in a rematch of their schools' championship bout.

Another Hove boxer, Gary Hudson, lost a unanimous decision against Nathan McKenzie (Waterlooville) but Leon Dejou (Southwick-Savages) was the beneficiary of a similar verdict against Marvin Saunders (King Alfred).

Seaford's David Watts lost on points to Joey Maloney (Keystone) while there was an interesting contest between cousins Paul Docherty (Epsom) and Martin McDonough (New Addington), with the latter taking the verdict.
