I urge all readers who care about the survival of the Al Duomo restaurant and the employment and service it provides to express their objections to Brighton and Hove City Council's ill-conceived plan to convert prime-position premises into a car parking fines and ticket office.

These premises are in a high-profile pedestrian area, next door to Al Duomo and the Royal Pavilion, an international visitor attraction. Many years ago, Al Duomo paved the way in providing good-quality, authentic and affordable Italian cuisine. It led where others have now followed and deserves every support and encouragement in trying to extend to include the empty premises next door.

The proposed extension would provide better access for disabled customers and enhance every aspect of the restaurant's facilities. The friendly and courteous staff provide an excellent service and contribute greatly to the town's image and quality of life.

A car parking fines and ticket office should be housed in the town hall.
