I AM amused at the whinging of your correspondents (Opinion, March 5) against the very real silver lining of the "foot in mouth" fiasco.
Have they ever tried the brilliant vegetarian food that can be found in Brighton? For instance, at Terre--Terre, Food for Friends and others - all healthy, nutritious and delicious.
Meat is produced at a very high cost to agricultural resources and isn't even very good for you.
Large-scale agriculture has become an industry and should be treated like any other industrial enterprise, including cover by its own insurance instead of asking the taxpayer to cough up for its mistakes.
Being a private industry, it is not the Government's duty to bail it out, except to protect the consumer.
The first thing to do is to switch any available subsidies to support vegetarian organic farming.
