The news that bottles of ale are being poured down the drain in Horsham will at first affront any true beer drinkers.
But they may be mollified when they find the booze was bottled back in 1977, 1981 and 1986 to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee and the weddings of her sons, Charles and Andrew.
The bottles with their special labels were wanted for the town's museum. The ancient ale may have been as flat now as the two royal marriages proved to be within a few years.
