Burstrick for PlayStation introduces gamesters to the excitement of wakeboarding.

You ride the surf behind a boat at whatever speed you choose, race up ramps and dodge obstacles trying to avoid a ducking and score maximum points.

Some Crash Bandicoot-style graphics and high-tempo music add to the excitement as you work through levels of increasing difficulty in the bid to become a champion. Progressing from round to round can also win you more boards and characters.

A tricks mode supplements the basic game but it is quite restrictive in the order of the moves. However, I found this is to be the most entertaining part. It is tremendous fun the first few times around. But boredom can soon set in as the challenges repeat themselves with little variation.

There is no multiplayer option and the modes are rather repetitious. The opening video scenes tend to promise rather more than you get.

Personally, I would rather be out there getting the spray, wind and sand in my hair. It was relatively easy to master the controls but, after that, the excitement began to wane. The voice menu, too, was annoyingly over-exuberant, suggesting this is a game for beach bums who need to be shouted at.

My overall verdict was Burstrick rather oversells itself for the limited results it achieves and anyone looking for a life would be advised to search elsewhere.
