A man has been charged in connection with the death of a Brighton father.

The 25-year-old local man walked into Brighton police station on Wednesday afternoon following publicity surrounding the death of 29-year-old Anthony Evans.

The man was being questioned by detectives at the John Street station today.

The dead man, a plasterer and the father of two young children, suffered a brain haemorrhage following an attack in The Escape Club in Marine Parade, Brighton, in the early hours of Sunday.

Mr Evans, of Bolsover Road, Hove, collapsed in the club and later in Hove before he was taken to hospital.

He died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, after doctors and his family took the decision to switch off his life-support machine.

A team of detectives, led by Detective Chief Inspector John Levett, carried out a series of raids on local addresses on Tuesday as part of their investigation.

The charged man walked in to Brighton police station at 3pm on Wednesday.

Mr Levett said it was vital everyone in The Escape Club from 1.30am to 2am came forward.
