Adrenalin pumping at maximum revs, Sussex car enthusiast Danny Gibbs' dream of having his own business has come true.

Danny, from Beddingham, near Lewes, has become the UK's first franchisee for towbar installation company TowForce.

He said: "For years I've wanted a business to call my own. A franchise has always been on the cards, but I didn't want my business to appear as 'customer 113'

or something like that in another company's accounts.

"I think being successful in getting the franchise is different. As my franchise is the first, I have been instrumental in establishing my own business and in setting out the ground rules for future franchisees in other parts of the country."

For Danny, formerly in marine industry sales and purchasing management, entry into the towing sector comes at an important time. This is because new cars are now subject to European legislation which demands that only approved towbars can be fitted.

Danny said: "Failure to comply with legislation can have disastrous ramifications, from withdrawal of the manufacturer's warranty to police prosecution.

"I will be dealing with the motor trade and also as a supplier direct to the consumer.

"I'm expecting to be kept very busy but the long and irregular working hours don't worry me. If a customer wants a towbar installed outside his house at 8 or 9pm, I will be delighted to make the arrangements.

Ian Bull, TowForce's franchise development manager, said the company had long experience in the towing business and knew the market inside out.

He said: "In this respect franchisees like Danny Gibbs are extremely well-placed for speedy access to quality products and the company's technical expertise."
