Kate Oakenfold hopes to clinch a place in the England under-19s squad this week.

The 16-year-old batsman, from Isfield near Uckfield, has attended a training session at Trent Bridge with fellow Sussex players Caroline Atkins (Burgess Hill), Alexia Walker (Bexhill) and Rosalie Birch (Lewes).

The Brighton College pupil, coached by England senior captain Clare Connor, said: "I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I played for the under-17s last year and hope I've done enough. The selectors will be writing to all of us this week to let us know.

"I think it went quite well for me at Trent Bridge. I surprised myself with my fitness and we had a couple of nets, one as a game and the other a specialist batting session. It was inspirational."

Atkins and Walker played for the under-19s last summer and expect to be chosen.

Birch was trialling for the under-17s.
