Worthing's excellent season continued with a 3-0 victory at home to mid-table Sutton Valence in Kent and Sussex division one.

This latest victory keeps Worthing three points ahead of Burnt Ash and Maidstone, with Ashford also in contention for one of the two expected promotion places.

John Massie gave Worthing a half time lead from a short corner.

The advantage was doubled in the second half when Mark Duncan fired home from a cross by Mark Newson and victory was sealed when Massie switched a short corner to Simon Holloway who switched it back for Massie to score his second.

Skipper Holloway said: "Sutton Valence are quite a good side and I am surprised they are not higher up the table.

"Everyone put in 110 per cent effort and it was one of our better home performances. Last week I was not happy with our short corner return but we scored two from short corners this week, which was much better."

Worthing were due to to visit Maidstone this Saturday but that match has been called off and will be rearranged, possibly at the start of February.

Instead, Worthing will turn their attention to cup matters as they make the long trek to face Sunderland in the third round of the HA Vase on Sunday.

After a crushing 4-0 defeat against Fareham the previous week, Chi showed vast signs of improvement.

"After last week, the improvement was tremendous.

"A draw was a very fair result but we never deserved to lose. However, we showed we can compete with the best in that league."

BJ Ranger put Chi ahead after being promoted from the seconds, but Wimbledon levelled on the stroke of half time through a penalty and then grabbed a winner in the second half.
