A head teacher called in the police after two pupils were caught rolling a joint.

Police were called after the two boys were seen rolling the cannabis cigarette by a senior teacher at Kings Manor Community College, Shoreham.

As the teacher approached, the boys - aged 15 and 16 - dropped the joint and tried to behave as if nothing was wrong.

They were taken to see headmaster David McLean, who called the police straight away.

The teenagers were taken to Shoreham police station where they were questioned in front of their parents.

Mr McLean said: "Taking prompt and decisive action as soon as this happened was the only thing we could do.

"We are determined to get the message across that there is no place at all for drugs at Kings Manor.

"We will not tolerate having drugs of any kind on the premises and anyone who does so will be dealt with in a similar manner."

Mr McLean said the two boys were now the subject of school disciplinary procedure.

He declined to say whether they had been suspended or expelled.

Letters were being sent out to parents last night explaining what had happened.

Year group meetings have also been held with pupils to drive home the school's policy on drugs and offering further advice to any who wanted it.

Mr McLean said: "Unfortunately, drugs are a part of everyday life in society.

"But there is not a drugs problem here at Kings Manor and we will not tolerate them here."
